What Sedex Is

SEDEX stands for Supplier Ethical Data Exchange. It is a global membership organization and online platform that helps companies manage, share, and improve information about responsible sourcing and ethical supply-chain practices.

In simple terms, SEDEX allows companies and their suppliers to share information about areas such as labour and human rights, health and safety, environmental management, business ethics, and responsible supply-chain practices.

SEDEX itself does not conduct the audit. Instead, companies can use the SEDEX platform to share audit results, including SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) reports, with their customers and business partners.

What SMETA Is

SMETA stands for Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit. It is an audit methodology developed for assessing working conditions and responsible business practices at companies and their supply chains.

There are two commonly used versions. SMETA 2-Pillar focuses on Labour Standards and Health & Safety. SMETA 4-Pillar covers the 2-Pillar areas plus Environment and Business Ethics.

Importantly, SMETA is an audit methodology, not a certification or a pass/fail standard. The audit provides an assessment of a site's practices and identifies areas for improvement.

More Than a Decade of Independent Auditing

Fiberee has undergone independent social audits on a biannual basis since 2014 and has been a Sedex member since 2018. From 2018 to 2024, Fiberee completed biannual SMETA audits under the 2-Pillar format. On 16 and 17 July 2026, Fiberee successfully completed its first 4-Pillar SMETA audit, covering the full scope of labor standards, health and safety, environmental management, and business ethics.

During the audit, the auditors conducted an on-site assessment covering the four pillars of the SMETA methodology: labor standards, health and safety, environmental management, and business ethics.

The audit included a review of relevant company policies, procedures, records, and documentation, as well as an assessment of workplace conditions and practices. The auditors also engaged with employees and management to gain a better understanding of how the company's policies and procedures are implemented in practice.

The findings from our 4-Pillar SMETA audit are documented in the SMETA audit report, which is available on the Sedex platform, our Sedex company reference being ZC404618389. We invite our customers and business partners to connect with Fiberee on Sedex and access the full audit report for further information.
